It doesn’t matter when it happens, an emergency is going to cause you a lot of headaches and cost you money. That’s why we recommend regular preventative maintenance from a professional company. Still, even with all of the maintenance in the world, there is a chance that an accident or serious problem can occur no matter what. You might be tempted to fix it yourself or even just ignore it and hope it doesn’t cause damage. Here are some common plumbing emergencies that you can’t let go. Call the pros immediately.

Overflowing toilet

The quintessential plumbing problem from popular culture. The toilet bowl drains and then fills back up with reckless abandon, spilling over onto the floor and causing havoc. A lot of homeowners just put some towels down and hope it stops. Don’t make this mistake. Get an emergency plumber. Not only will these leave you without a toilet if you let it go, it could cause heavy damage to your floor or walls. It isn’t worth it.

Burst pipes

These are one of the most damaging emergencies imaginable. When the pressure builds up, the lining wears out or the pipe gets frozen, a burst pipe is the likely result. Not only are you going to get a flood of water into your basement, you are going to have water flow issues everywhere. Don’t let this one go and just try to “plug it up” or turn off the water supply and wait. The health and safety of your home and the people in it depend on it.

No hot water

You wake up in the morning, put the coffee pot on and hop into the tub for a nice warm shower. Except this isn’t your normal morning shower, it’s an ice bath that will leave you screaming and running for the hills. When your hot water isn’t working, it could be the sign of a serious problem. Don’t just let it go and boil water on the stove to use. It won’t get any better and it won’t actually save you any money. The longer you wait the worse it gets.

Try as you might, there is no way to actually prevent an emergency completely. Preventative maintenance goes a long way, but there is always a chance that something could happen. These are the most common plumbing emergencies that you just can’t let go and get worse. If they do happen, call a professional plumber right away.
